EXT. A CIRCUS TENT/ IN A RURAL FARMING AREA - NIGHT
Arty, also known as, Arty the Foolish Clown, sits in a wooden chair with his legs splayed out before him. He brings his hands up to his face as if he is distraught--possibly annoyed. He lets out an exasperated sigh and looks at the mirror before him. The mirror has gleaming, bright light bulbs surrounding the perimeter of it. He takes a glimpse at his face and winces. His white, cakey, makeup has a sickening, ghoulish look to it. The blue eye shadow surrounding his eyes is running down his cheeks.
ARTY
(To himself)
What the fuck happened to you?
Sarah, also known as, The Invincible Woman, walks into the tent, and sees the distraught look on Arty's face. She slowly walks over to Arty and wraps her arms around his shoulders
ARTY
(Yelling)
No one gives a damn about me! No one! The kids see right through me! They know I'm nothing but a fucking failure! They don't want a useless sack of shit like-
Arty begins to cry. Sarah pulls him into an embrace
SARAH
Art, you can still be the same person you were in your prime! You have all that potential still waiting inside of you!
Arty slowly pulls away from Sarah and looks off into the dark sky between the slit of the open tent. He can still see the gleaming, blinking lights of the carnival rides outside. He sighs.
ARTY
I just feel like i'm faking everything--that people only find me useful when they need something to laugh about.
Arty looks at his hands--embarrassed at his vulnerability. Sarah clenches his hand and smiles down at Art.
ARTY
I'd like to be alone right now.
Sarah looks at him with much sadness in her eyes, but lets go of the grip on his hand and leaves. Arty looks back at himself in the mirror. Slowly, but hesitantly, he gets up.

Documentary Preproduction materials: Treatment/Script, Resources, and Schedule
Group: Kaitlyn, Marissa, Rosa
Documentary Subject: DeVonte Glass
Director: Rosa Hernandez
Title: Shards of Glass
Tagline: Be unapologetically, you.
Logline: Shards of Glass tells the trials and tribulations of a young man whom is both queer and person of color, and the struggles he has had to endure throughout the duration of his life.
Documentary Treatment/Script: DeVonte Glass is a queer, person of color who attends
Indiana University South-Bend. He grew up in a predominantly Christian household,
and has faced much ostracism from people due to the mere fact he is gay and a
person of color. Despite the ostracism that he has faced, DeVonte continues to
be a bubbly, spontaneous person, who is compassionate and kind. During his
journey, DeVonte has encountered many problems within the LGBTQ+ community, and
within his own community that he wishes to address. DeVonte will go into detail
about his life growing up, then will lead us to his life in the present. We
also wish to showcase how DeVonte has struggled much of his life because of
homophobia, racism and so forth. The interview will take place mostly within
DeVonte’s dorm, but will include much b-roll to give our interview more
variation of shots and location. The b-roll captured will showcase many of
DeVonte’s interests and aspirtations. For instance, since DeVonte is a music performance
major, and enjoys playing the piano, we will gather b-roll of him playing the
piano, and so forth. These shots will take place in an open-spaced environment with
a piano present in the room. The camera (during the duration of the interview)
will remain somewhat static, other than the use of a zoom lens. Whilst, footage
gathered for b-roll will be somewhat static, with the documentary subject doing
various things. The documentary is fitting of the realist documentary style. There
will not be much manipulation in terms of colorization, lighting, filters, or
any of the like. The camera settings will be adjusted to match that of the lighting
in the surrounding environment.
Schedule and Resources: Resources will include a Canon Rebel DSLR, a 75-300mm zoom
lens, a tripod, lighting equipment, and
a boom mic. We will also need a bedroom area/living space, and an open-spaced environment
with a grand piano present for our documentary subject to use. I must reserve
this area as soon as possible to assure that it will be open to our use. All
shots will be indoors, so it does not matter the weather for that day in
specific. The director, editor, and camera person must all be present on the
day of filming, as we will need assistance with the boom mic, and lighting. Filming
will take place on March 26th, 2017 from 12:30pm to 5:30pm, in order
to assure we capture all shots needed. We will first shoot the interview in the
dorm/living space area, then gather shots for our b-roll in the piano practice
room of Northside Hall afterwards.

Documentary Subject: DeVonte Glass
DeVonte Glass is a queer, intersectional feminist who attends IUSB. DeVonte grew up in Gary, Indiana and is a senior majoring in Music Performance. He enjoys reading, playing piano, singing, socializing with friends/family, participating in club events and attending club meetings.
This interview could be used in a documentary to give a voice/platform to queer people of color who are often excluded from the conversation when it comes to the LGBTQ+ community. This could inspire young/old queer people of color who often aren't recognized and who have struggled in their own communities. This documentary could be used to give a genuine perspective and to educate those who are not familiar of the struggles one must face when being gay and a person of color.
Q1. What do you aspire to be after you graduate?
Q2. What was it like growing up in a predominately Christian household and being gay?
Q3. What are the obstacles you face as a queer person of color?
Q4. What are problems you see within the LGBTQ+ community?
Q5. What does it mean to be a queer person of color?
Q6, What was life like after you came out to your parents?
Q7. Why is it so important to be heard under the current presidency of Donald Trump?
Q8. What advice do you wish to give to queer POC that are struggling with acceptance from their communities?
Q9. What are some questions straight people should NEVER ask a queer person of color?
Q10. What do you wish people knew about you?

Music Video Analysis
For my music video analysis I decided upon the music video Hum by the band Tigers Jaw. I believe that the video is both performative and conceptual. Due to the fact that there isn't an exact story line but rather many visual elements to interest the viewer. For example, light is very prominent in the video. There is influence of shadows and use of a light machines that visually stimulates the viewer. The performers, multiple times throughout the video have dots of light (most likely due to a projector) scattered across their faces. The use of lighting/shadows is very carefully constructed throughout the video and in one scene in particular (at 1:03), there is a shot where the girl performer has one side of her face cascaded by the light machine and different shapes spread across, whilst the other side of her face is shadowed. Line and shape both have a huge influence in this video as well. The lights that illuminate the performers in the video, for example at 1:08, create lines that point directly towards the singer. Meanwhile, the light machines create dots and lines that scatter across both of their faces. This creates a sense of rhythm as these elements are consistently repeated.
One key moment that I found, specifically at 0:09 to 0:18, has the camera approaching both performers in a long, dark, narrow hallway. The only light source is directly behind them, flashing in and out while they face the camera. This creates silhouettes of each person. While the camera is approaching, the male performer walks into another room. Another key moment is at 1:41 where there is a shot of two hands, upraised in front of the camera, that are illuminated by the light machine shooting straight lines downwards at the hands.
There is movement of the camera at the beginning of the video where the camera is approaching both figures, and appears at some other points in the video. However, the camera is mostly static throughout the video and the figures appear to be moving in most shots. I believe that the video reinterprets the song in it's own individual way. The video doesn't really have a story within itself even, nor is it following the lyrics/story of the song.

Hello, my name is Rosa Hernandez. I'm a huge fan of cult movies that range from the Evil Dead series to Killer Klowns from Outer Space. I'm very intrigued specifically by 80s and 70s horror and find them the most entertaining types of films to watch. However, I enjoy many films outside the genre. I really enjoy hardcore/punk-hardcore, as well as midwest-emo music, math-rock. I'm interested in all types of genres of music.
I became very intrigued by film/media when I was a sophomore in high school and took my first media arts class. I took another media arts class my second semester of my sophomore year and found that I could involve my own technique and creativity into my work. I enjoyed editing my work the most and I went on to edit for my school's news program my junior year of high school.
If I could make any media without restrictions, it would have to be gritty, personal films/experimental films. Possibly horror?
